A small town three miles southeast of Westerville Ohio named Amalthea (today known as Central College) was platted by Timothy Lee in 1816. In 1832 a college known as the Blendon Institute (later known as Central College Academy) was formed and in 1842 given to the Presbyterian church. The college closed in 1894 due to financial difficulties. The Ohio School for the Deaf Alumni Association purchased the defunct school property and created the Ohio Home for the Aged and Infirm Deaf.
